2.2. Expression of Purpose (to, in order to, so that)
Sekarang kita masuk ke bagian tata bahasa untuk menjelaskan tujuan atau maksud dari suatu tindakan.
A. Aturan Penggunaan
- To + Verb 1: Digunakan untuk menyatakan tujuan secara singkat.
- Contoh: I study hard to pass the exam.
- In order to + Verb 1: Lebih formal daripada “to”, tetapi memiliki arti yang sama.
- Contoh: We should eat healthy food in order to be fit.
- So that + Subject + Modal (can/will/should): Diikuti oleh klausa lengkap (ada subjek dan kata kerja).
- Contoh: I save my money so that I can buy a new laptop.
B. Bentuk Negatif (Agar tidak…)
- In order NOT to + Verb 1
- So that + Subject + Modal + NOT
